On October 26, 2020, the Mar-Mac Police Department was awarded a grant in the amount of $1,259 from the Upper Mississippi Gaming Corporation for the purchase of a Phillips Heart-Start A.E.D. This new A.E.D. will replace an older model A.E.D. in one of the patrol vehicles.
In a recent 2019 update by the American Heart Association, there are more than 356,000 out-of-hospital cardiac arrests annually in the U.S. Of the 356,000, only 37% adults experiencing a cardiac arrest are witnessed events. With an immediate access and application of an A.E.D., approximately 1,700 lives are saved after a cardiac arrest.
