September 2020 Activity and Arrest Summary

A criminal charge is merely an accusation and a defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty.

On September 2, 2020, at approximately 11:30 pm, the Mar-Mac Police Department responded to the Hillspoint Apartment, in Marquette, for a reported assault with injuries.  While en route, the officer was advised the suspect, Brandon L. Wilkinson, had left the residence.  During the investigation, Wilkinson was accused of assaulting a female party over money causing injury.  After the female party notified law enforcement, Wilkinson fled the residence.  Wilkinson was later arrested by the Monona Police Department on an unrelated charge.  A complaint and affidavit was filed accusing Wilkinson of Domestic Assault Abuse – 2nd Offense (Aggravated Misdemeanor).

On September 3, 2020, at approximately 11:20 am, the Mar-Mac Police Department was notified of fraudulent activity on a credit card.  During the investigation it was determined a McGregor resident had purchased an item off eBay at a significantly lower price from an individual from Minnesota.  The Minnesota individual then purchased the same product using the PayPal account from a different individual living in Missouri.  With the unauthorized PayPal purchase, the individual from Minnesota shipped the item to McGregor to disguise the fraudulent activity.  The PayPal transaction was flagged; however, the McGregor’s transaction was completed.  The Minnesota individual was also found to be fictitious.  If anyone believes they have been a victim of fraudulent activities, please call the Mar-Mac Police Department at (563) 873-2500.  Additional information can be found online at www.consumer.ftc.gov. 

On September 4, 2020, at approximately 12:45 pm, the Mar-Mac Police Department was notified of fraudulent activity identifying themselves as an officer with the police department.  The McGregor resident recognized the call as a scam and hung up.  If anyone believes they have been a victim of fraudulent activities, please call the Mar-Mac Police Department at (563) 873-2500.  Additional information can be found online at www.consumer.ftc.gov.

On September 4, 2020, at approximately 5:51 pm, the Mar-Mac Police Department was notified of fraudulent activity identifying a Marquette residence had won several millions of dollars but needed to send $900 to receive their winnings.  The Marquette resident recognized the call as a scam and hung up.  If anyone believes they have been a victim of fraudulent activities, please call the Mar-Mac Police Department at (563) 873-2500.  Additional information can be found online at www.consumer.ftc.gov.

On September 5, 2020, at approximately 5:00 pm, the Mar-Mac Police Department investigated a harassment complaint involving the social media website Facebook.  After speaking with the parties involved, the individual was warned their posts were becoming a criminal matter and were no longer the expression of speech.  The individual was asked to stop with the social media posts.

On September 5, 2020, at approximately 7:08 pm, the Mar-Mac Police Department was requested to conduct a welfare check at a residence in the 500 block of Main Street, in McGregor.  The arriving officer was unable to contact the person.  Upon entering the residence, the resident was found deceased.  During the investigation, evidence and statements were obtained.  The deceased person was transported to the Iowa Office of the State Medical Examiner for an autopsy.  Based on the investigation, there is no threat to the public.  Due to the nature of the call, no additional information will be released in respect to the family.

On September 7, 2020, at approximately 12:22 am, the Mar-Mac Police Department responded to a car vs deer accident on West Main Street, in McGregor.  A 2020 Ford Fusion was westbound on West Main Street when three deer crossed the roadway.  The Ford Fusion collided with one of the deer causing approximately $2,500 in damage. 

On September 7, 2020, at approximately 1:10 pm, the Mar-Mac Police Department received a criminal mischief complaint at the Marquette City Park, located at 1st and Edgar Street.  The reporting party stated fecal matter was inside one of the slides.

On September 8, 2020, at approximately 4:15 am, the Mar-Mac Police Department investigated a suspicious activity report on Walton Street, in McGregor.  According to the complainant, a light was shining on a neighbor’s residence.  A canvass of the area did not reveal any unusual activity.

On September 10, 2020, at approximately 8:56 pm, the Mar-Mac Police Department investigated an assault that occurred at a business on Anti-Monopoly Street, in Marquette.  During the investigation, a patron was confronted by the on-premises security officers.  During their contact, Michael S. Mecikalski, from Boscobel, Wisconsin, initiated physical contact with one of the security officers.  A complaint and affidavit accusing Mecikalski of Assault (Simple Misdemeanor) was filed with a summons to appear in court.

On September 19, 2020, at approximately 1:46 pm, while on patrol, a Mar-Mac Police Officer observed a vehicle squealing its tires as it entered First Street, from North Street, in Marquette.  A traffic stop was initiated and conducted for Careless Driving.  During their contact, the officer detected signs of impairment.  The driver participated in the Standardized Field Sobriety Test.  At the conclusion of the investigation, a complaint and affidavit was filed accusing Dino C. Gingerich, from McGregor, of Operating While Intoxicated – 1st Offense (Serious Misdemeanor).  Gingerich was also cited for Careless Driving.

On September 19, 2020, at approximately 9:00 pm, the Mar-Mac Police Department received a theft report from a residence in McGregor.  During the investigation, jewelry was reported missing.  The total loss is approximately $4,800.  The theft remains under investigation. 

On September 20, 2020, at approximately 1:25 am, a Mar-Mac Police Officer initiated contact with a female who was sitting on the steps in front of a business on Main Street, in McGregor.  During their contact, the officer detects signs of impairment.  The female was assisted to her residence, which was next door.

On September 23, 2020, at approximately 11:48 am, the Mar-Mac Police Department was notified of an unlicensed driver operating a blue Ford Ranger.  The said Ford Ranger was observed exiting a business’ parking lot on Anti-Monopoly Street, in Marquette.  A traffic stop was initiated on US Highway 18, at Pleasant Ridge Road.  After the deployment of the Clayton County Sheriff’s Office K-9 Unit, Steven A. Burr, was found to be in possession of drug paraphernalia and a controlled substance.  Burr was arrested and transported to the Clayton County Jail.  Complaint and affidavits were filed accusing Burr of Possession of a Controlled Substance – 3rd Offense or Subsequent (Class D Felony) and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia (Simple Misdemeanor).  Burr was also cited for No Valid Driver’s License and Failure to Provide Proof of Financial Liability.

On September 25, 2020, at approximately 12:17 pm, the Mar-Mac Police Department was notified of fraudulent activity advising a McGregor resident a lien would be placed onto their property for failing to provide their social security information.  The McGregor resident recognized the call as a scam and hung up.  If anyone believes they have been a victim of fraudulent activities, please call the Mar-Mac Police Department at (563) 873-2500.  Additional information can be found online at www.consumer.ftc.gov.

On September 26, 2020, at approximately 8:25 pm, the Mar-Mac Police Department was notified of a theft that occurred at a business on A Street, in McGregor.  During the investigation, it was determined a party failed to satisfy their bill before leaving.

On September 28, 2020, at approximately 2:16 pm, the Mar-Mac Police Department was notified of fraudulent activity advising a McGregor resident would be arrested for failing to provide their social security information.  The McGregor resident recognized the call as a scam and hung up.  If anyone believes they have been a victim of fraudulent activities, please call the Mar-Mac Police Department at (563) 873-2500.  Additional information can be found online at www.consumer.ftc.gov.
